Farmers dumped piles of basmati rice outside government offices to protest against plummeting prices for their crop. They said that despite the high quality of their produce, traders were offering only ₹3,200–₹3,300 per quintal, far below expectations. The demonstrators demanded government intervention and a fixed minimum support price for basmati varieties.
