In Pune, residents gathered at the site of a felled 150-year-old banyan tree near the university, concerned that civic authorities would uproot the stump and the roots of the tree. They tied red ribbons around the exposed remains of the tree and stood in silent protest, demanding preservation of the city’s heritage tree and respect for legal protection of native species.
