Dress up as brinjals
|
January 2010
Farmers and activists donned brinjal costumes and raised slogans at a public hearing for genetically modified brinjal (“Bt brinjal”), expressing sharp opposition to its commercial introduction. They argued that the crop, controlled by seed companies, threatened both local biodiversity and the livelihoods of small farmers. The visual of people dressed as brinjals transformed the hearing space into a stage of symbolic dissent against agricultural corporatisation.
