Garlic farmers locked the gates of the mandi to protest sharply reduced market prices, citing drops from roughly ₹3,000 per quintal to just ₹500–700, while costs remained high and the Bhawantar scheme failed to provide relief. The gate-lock halted procurement for two hours, prompting officials to change staff and raise quotes to about ₹1,000 per quintal. Growers demanded reform of procurement and price-support mechanisms, linking their action to wider incidents where garlic was sold for as little as ₹2 kg in nearby markets.
