In Goa, civil-society activists launched a campaign urging couples to hug coconut trees on Valentine’s Day as a protest against a government amendment that removed tree status from coconut palms. The initiative included a photo contest, coconut-themed party and cultural events, with participants encouraged to make the coconut tree their valentine and express public support for the tree’s heritage.
