Flower growers dumped marigold blooms into irrigation canals after the Covid-19 lockdown closed markets and halted demand, leaving the harvest unsellable. They reported that entire consignments of marigolds could not find buyers and, unable to store the perishable crop, chose to dispose of it directly into the waterways.
