Block highways with paddy sacks

February 2021
Farmers blocked highways with sacks of paddy to protest against delays in procurement and payment by government agencies. Despite the state recording one of its highest-ever paddy collections, thousands of farmers complained that their produce was lying unsold at mandis for weeks. The demonstrators said the slow lifting process and lack of coordination among officials had left them in financial distress. Using their grain harvest to obstruct traffic, they turned a symbol of their livelihood into a powerful expression of frustration and neglect.
