Farmers staged a protest against a private company that was processing coconut-shell ash, and to highlight their concerns they wore garlands made from coconut shells during the demonstration. Their allegations included that coconut shell-ash creates air pollution and dust pollution in and around farmlands in that area. The protesters claimed the company’s operations threatened their livelihoods and the local environment, and their symbolic adornment of coconut-shell garlands was meant to draw public attention to the issue.
