Stomp on foreign grapes

Toronto, Canada

July 2009

Grape growers in Toronto held a protest where they stomped on imported grapes to encourage consumers and the provincial liquor board to support Ontario’s wine industry. They argued that cheap foreign grapes were hurting local producers whose costs had risen sharply. By publicly crushing imported grapes and displaying price differences, the protesters aimed to draw attention to the challenges faced by Ontario growers and to promote the purchase of locally grown grapes.
