Tape bananas to shirts

Miami, USA

Janitors in downtown Miami wearing purple union shirts taped a banana to the front of each shirt and marched in protest against low wages and poor working conditions. They chose this action after the artwork Comedian — a banana duct-taped to a wall and sold for around $120,000 at Art Basel Miami Beach — caught global attention, using its absurdity to highlight how their labour is undervalued. Nearly 60 % of these subcontracted janitors live at or near the U.S. poverty line, despite Miami being a major real-estate market.
