Activists planted a yellow “X” made from 1,000 daffodils in a field near Pödelwitz, Germany, adjacent to an area affected by lignite (brown coal) mining. Volunteers placed the daffodils directly into the ground and arranged them in straight rows to create the clearly defined symbol across the open landscape. Greenpeace photographs document participants setting the flowers into place and show the completed formation in contrast with the surrounding fields and nearby mining terrain.
